Abstract:
Objective To establish a simply practicable semi-quantitative detection method of hydrogen sulfide based on silver nitrate colorimetry.
Methods At the sampling site, a multi-hole absorbing tube containing 10.0 mL hydrogen sulfide absorbing solution was used to collect air sample for 5 minutes at 0.5 L/min sampling flow. Then, 5.0 mL absorbing solution was rapidly colored with silver nitrate and the color was visual colorimetric determined, compared with both positive and negative control reagent.
Results The method showed that the semi-quantitative determination results were accurate, with detection limit 1.6 mg/m3 and relative standard deviation(RSD)3.2%. The common inorganic anions had no interference.
Conclusion This method is low cost, convenient, simple, and applicable for the investigation of hidden hydrogen sulfide.
