Abstract:
Objective To understand the awareness condition of occupational disease knowledge among manganese-exposed workers in Shanghai Pudong New Area and to discuss its relevant influencing factors.
Methods Totally 1 256 occupationally manganese-exposed workers in Pudong New Area were surveyed with questionnaire. Logistic regression analysis was used to examine the influencing factors.
Results Totally, 1 192 workers provided their questionnaires (94.90%) and the awareness rate of occupational disease knowledge was 80.37% (958/1 192). Logistic regression analysis showed that the elder workers(OR=0.723) and the workers with longer occupational hazards exposure time or longer employment time(OR=0.662, 0.575) had higher awareness rate(P < 0.05 or 0.01). Logistic regression analysis also showed that marital status (unmarried vs. married, OR=1.730), education level (junior high school vs. elementary school, OR=0.652; high school and above vs. elementary school, OR=0.510), monthly income (3 000-8 000 yuan vs. < 3 000 yuan, OR=0.599, 8 000 and above yuan vs. < 3 000 yuan, OR=0.484), enterprise scale (small and micro vs. large, OR=1.694), economic type (private vs. state-owned, OR=2.158), enterprise type (shipbuilding vs. metal products industry, OR=1.992, others vs. metal products industry, OR=2.280) were the influencing factors for workers' awareness of occupational diseases knowledge(P < 0.05 or 0.01).
Conclusion Training on occupational disease knowledge should be strengthened for the manganese-exposed workers being younger, with low-income, being unmarried, working in small and micro enterprises, private enterprises and shipbuilding industry to protect their interest and fitness.
