Application of participatory training in occupational health training program in jewelry enterprises

  • Objective To demonstrate the effectiveness of participatory training in occupational health training program in jewelry enterprises. Methods A group of 100 workers (intervention group) was trained with participatory training model,including multimedia teaching,panel discussion and practice on use of personal protective equipment,while another group of 100 workers (as control group) was trained with traditional teaching method. The score of their KAP on occupational health was compared between before and after training. Results The mean score of KAP of workers in intervention group was significantly increased from(41.29 ±8.59) to (81.06 ±11.78)(t=10.11,P < 0.01), while the mean score of control group workers was increased from (53.68 ±10.58) to(61.37 ±15.39)(t=1.39,P > 0.05). Further study showed that the characteristics of workers in intervention group,such as educational background,the employment time,and the professional qualifications,affected greatly the effectiveness of training program. Conclusion The participatory training is an effective way in occupational health training in jewelry enterprises.
